Before you start, gather these details to avoid any delays:
  • Your new BMO credit card (card number, expiry date, 3-digit CVV on the back)
  • BMO online banking username and password
  • Last 4 digits of your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • A device with an internet connection

Method 1: Activate via bmo.com/activate (Desktop or Mobile Browser)

Go to bmo.com/activate

Open a browser and visit https://www.bmo.com/activate.

Select 'Yes' to confirm online banking

When asked if you currently bank online with BMO, select Yes and click Next.

Sign in to BMO online banking

Enter your username and password on the secure BMO sign-in page.

Enter your credit card details

Type in your card number, expiry date, and CVV when prompted.

Confirm and activate

Click Activate Now. The confirmation screen confirms your BMO credit card is now active.

Method 2: Activate via the BMO Mobile App

Open the BMO Mobile Banking app

Launch the BMO app on your iPhone or Android phone. Download it from the App Store or Google Play if needed.

Sign in

Enter your BMO online banking credentials and tap Sign In.

Find your new card

Tap My Cards or navigate to your credit card account. Your new card should appear as pending activation.

Tap Activate Card

Select Activate Card and follow the on-screen prompts to enter your card details.

Confirm activation

Tap Confirm. Your BMO credit card is now activated and ready for use.
Both methods activate your card instantly. If you do not see your new card in the BMO app, sign out and sign back in to refresh your account.
