BMO card activation is usually instant. When you activate at https://www.bmo.com/activate, by phone, or through the BMO mobile app, your card should become active within a few minutes. In rare cases, it may take up to one hour for the activation to fully process across BMO’s payment network.
No. You must have the physical BMO card in hand before you can activate it. Activation requires the 16-digit card number, expiry date, and CVV printed on the card itself. These details are not available before delivery.
To activate your BMO card online at bmo.com/activate, you need:
  • Your 16-digit BMO card number
  • The card expiry date (month/year)
  • The CVV security code (3 digits on the back for most cards, 4 digits on the front for some credit cards)
  • Your postal code or the last four digits of your phone number for identity verification
